The “Pumi”, vernacular term for Pomi or Pigne, are handmade ceramic products very widespread in the area of the Apulian Baroque. In Grottaglie city center, for example, these ornamental elements adorn aristocratic villas and facade of old palaces. The larger sizes are mostly placed on tall columns, the smaller ones usually decorate the corner tops of wrought-iron balconies. Their shape similar to a stylized artichoke or a small rose bud represents the sublimation of the elegance of nature, and includes symbolic meanings of good omen, fertility, good luck, abundance . As ceramist, the pomo is the best way to express our professional skills in relation to workmanship, innovation of shapes, and our personal artistic feeling in relation to colours and decorations.
