The typical production arises from ancient origin, devoted to the use as containers for oil, wine and products to be preserved with the old systems in oil, in salt, in vinegar and as tools for the housewives for various uses at home.
Each form of amphora has retained its original name. The most common is the capasone which derives from the Latin “capiens” that is capable, capacious. Used only for wine, it was at the service of winemakers until the social wineries took over the production of homemade wine. In fact, all the cellars of our houses were full of capasoni and someone still uses them.
The flasks, on the other hand, have onomatopoeic names, that is, they originate from the sounds they emit when they empty, such as “trimmone”, “ciotle” and “vummili”.
